Moving to smaller quarters...

After moving my daughter this week and living in small quarters while we did it I have come to the conclusion that less is definitely more.

If you are a regular reader of my blog then you also know that I have a daughter who is 8 years old. Who really doesn't have a care in the world and wants for nothing. She has too much. So much that at times she is overwhelmed with what to play with. As we are purging and cleaning out stuff and she is choosing stuff to keep I find that she is actually more at ease and playing with what we are keeping.

I think this move is going to be so good for her. So freeing in a sense with less in her life it is going to make her life definitely more if you will. Now for me well I did do a mini purge in my kitchen and I had a purge box/bin and a keep box when I was done the keep box was EMPTY, yes me I had an empty box and it felt so good. Of course there are things that are for sure coming with me but if it was just a trinket item and added no value to my life well lets just say it is finding another home.

As we are on our purge and move journey you will find more blog posts on this topic because well it's just my life... at the moment.

Have you ever thought to move to smaller quarters? Our plan is to move from a 6 bedrooms house with a pool to a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment. Are you up for the challenge?

  1. I love to purge. Sadly, my husband dislikes when I do it. He would hold on to everything if I let him. We desperately need to clean out our cold room. It is ridiculous how much stuff is in there.

Wow, 6 bedrooms! I couldn't imagine that much space. Good luck with your move. :)

  2. We are working on some renos (our house was not designed for 4 kids!) so our playroom will be a bedroom (when it's done) and the kids will need to keep the toys in the bedroom since we will not have a 'designated' playroom (doesn't really matter since the toys always got taken to our living area). Anyways - back to my point LOL - when we needed to start the renos, I needed to pack up toys. The kids are playing SO much nicer without so many things! The do occasionally ask for certain toys and I will get them out of storage, but in general it is much nicer. I am finding less is more for clothing too. I do have extras for my oldest ds (because he gets a lot of hand me downs) but he is at the wear everything out stage so I just replace with the extras. My oldest dd is having a much easier time picking out clothes with less though.

  3. I do not think I could downsize that much but I still have four kids at home. However, I often wonder what some of these people do with these huge houses. We spend a lot of time outside so I need a yard

  5. I have always lived in a smallish house. I do believe that smaller quarters makes for a closer family. My house is really tight right now, though, lol! I have lived in 3 bedroom houses, always approx 11k - 12k square feet. Or...a 2 bedroom apartment once and a single wide trailer following a divorce. The trailer was TINY! And I had 2 kids, 2 dogs and three cats in there with me. We were always tripping over each other and the dining table had to be outside on the front porch. It wouldn't fit inside the trailer. Good luck with your move!

  8. I think it's a great idea! We are going through things, room by room, and purging. I've got two toddlers who have way too many toys and it's time to start downsizing our things. Good luck with your move.

Stopping by from the Friday Blog Hop. Thanks!

  9. We moved from a huge house to a 34 foot sailboat and lived on it quite happily for 10 years... just now moving to a small apartment. After the boat, everything seems huge!

  10. @AnnMarie Brown too bad my dd is bigger than your dd ;) I would gladly help take some off your hands lol

I need to get rid of some of dd1's clothes. She HATES jeans and I have bought many different kinds, hoping that she would find some she likes. I was keeping them for dd2 but really I have way to many for dd2. I should start purging them.
